Hearing Aid Dispensing and Fitting

Your satisfaction with your hearing aids is assured when you have your hearing aids fitted at Delta Hearing. Our hearing professionals understand that hearing is a highly individualized experience. Just as no two fingerprints are the same, no two people experience sound in the same way.

Digital technology allows our skilled hearing professionals to fine-tune and adjust your hearing aid programs to deliver sound as you want to hear it: naturally and comfortably.

The hearing aid fitting appointment

Because of the complex nature of hearing aid fittings, this appointment will most likely be the longest visit you have with Delta Hearing.

The hearing professional will use live speech mapping to adjust your hearing aid programs. You may feel apprehensive about hearing with your new devices.  That’s completely natural. The hearing healthcare professional will provide you with a plan for adjusting to wearing your new hearing aids.

Just as your eyes must become accustomed to wearing glasses, your brain must become accustomed to the return of the auditory stimulation that diminished along with your ability to hear.

During your hearing aid fitting, you’ll learn to insert and remove your hearing aids and will practice doing so until you are comfortable with the process. You’ll also learn how to change or recharge batteries and what daily maintenance you should perform.

We encourage you to bring a friend or family member with you to this appointment. They can help you remember the wealth of information covered during the fitting appointment and we will even use their voice for live speech mapping.

Don’t hesitate to ask for written instructions, which can be a great help if you have questions later.

Live speech mapping

Some hearing aid offices use a series of tones and beeps to adjust your hearing aid programs. At Delta Hearing, our hearing care professionals know the best results are achieved by using more familiar sounds.

Live speech mapping uses the sound of a voice with which you are familiar to fine-tune the program for your hearing aids. It is proven to provide higher patient satisfaction than other forms of fitting.

A small microphone will be placed in your ear along with your new hearing aid. The microphone picks up the sounds as you hear them with the hearing aid and converts them to a visual representation that you and the hearing professional can see.

Your friend’s voice is then used to adjust the hearing aids, so you hear familiar voices comfortably. As the hearing professional adjusts the programs, you’ll be able to see how your hearing changes with those adjustments.

Live speech mapping provides:

  • Better speech hearing and comprehension
  • Engages you and others in the fitting and adjustment process
  • Increase successful outcomes of fittings
  • Improves the accuracy of hearing aid programming
  • Reduces number of return visits necessary for adjustments
